Top 10 Best Pool Cleaning Services in Stevenage

Pool Ownership in and Around Stevenage

While private swimming pools are less common in the town's compact New Town neighbourhoods, they are increasingly popular in the larger detached homes of the Old Town, Great Ashby and the surrounding villages such as Knebworth, Walkern, Benington, Datchworth and Codicote. Hot tubs and swim spas have also become a familiar sight in Stevenage gardens, offering year-round relaxation without the space requirements of a full pool. Whether indoor or outdoor, every pool and spa needs regular care to keep water clean, balanced and safe.

Pool cleaning services handle water testing and chemical balancing, skimming, vacuuming, filter cleaning, equipment checks, seasonal opening and closing, cover maintenance, leak detection and repairs to pumps, heaters and control systems. Many also service hot tubs, swim spas and commercial pools in gyms, hotels and schools.

Choosing a Pool Service

Look for technicians with recognised pool and spa training, as correct chemical handling is essential for safety and equipment longevity. Ask about the frequency of visits, what is included in a routine service and how chemicals are supplied and charged. Reliable companies provide written records of water tests and recommendations after each visit. Check insurance and ask whether they can carry out repairs or only routine cleaning.

Pool Care Trends

Energy efficiency has become a major priority for pool owners. Variable speed pumps, air source heat pumps for pool heating and well-fitted covers can dramatically reduce running costs. Automated dosing systems and smart controllers that monitor water chemistry remotely are also gaining popularity, providing consistent water quality and alerting owners or technicians to problems.

There is growing interest in alternative sanitation methods, such as salt chlorination, ultraviolet systems and ozone treatment, which can reduce chemical use and create gentler water for swimmers. Natural swimming ponds, which use planting and biological filtration instead of chemicals, are also attracting attention among environmentally conscious homeowners with larger gardens.

Essential Maintenance Tips

Test water regularly, ideally several times a week in summer, and keep pH and sanitiser levels within recommended ranges. Skim debris daily during autumn and after storms, and clean or backwash filters according to manufacturer guidance. Keep covers on when the pool is not in use to reduce evaporation and contamination. For hot tubs, change water every few months, clean filters weekly and keep the cover clean and secure. Store chemicals safely, away from children and pets, and never mix different products.

Seasonal Opening and Closing

In Hertfordshire's climate, many outdoor pools are opened in late spring and closed in early autumn. Professional opening involves removing covers, reconnecting equipment, shocking and balancing water and checking for winter damage. Closing involves lowering water levels, protecting pipework from frost, adding winterising chemicals and securing covers. Getting these processes right protects equipment and makes the following season far easier.

Booking these visits early is advisable, as experienced technicians are in high demand during the brief spring and autumn windows. Many companies offer discounted packages that combine opening, closing and a set number of summer maintenance visits.

Conclusion

A well-maintained pool or hot tub is a wonderful asset, providing exercise, relaxation and family enjoyment. The pool cleaning services covering Stevenage and its surrounding villages offer the expertise to keep water safe, clear and inviting. Choose a qualified, reliable provider and you can spend more time enjoying your pool and less time worrying about it.
