Why Paper Packaging Is Growing

Retailers are adopting paper bags and cardboard packaging to meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements. E-commerce growth has increased demand for corrugated boxes, while food service businesses are switching to paper cups, straws and containers.

Sustainability in Paper Manufacturing

Responsible paper manufacturers use recycled fibres and timber from certified sustainable forests, such as FSC or PEFC-certified sources. Many mills are reducing water and energy use, investing in renewable energy and improving recycling processes. Wales's high recycling rates provide a strong supply of recovered paper and cardboard for reuse.

How to Choose a Paper Goods Supplier

Identify your requirements, including product type, size, strength, printing and quantities. Ask about recycled content, certifications and recyclability. For packaging, request samples to test performance in real conditions, such as transit or food contact. Consider minimum order quantities, lead times and storage space, especially for smaller businesses. Working with a local supplier can provide faster turnaround and easier communication.

Industry Trends

Innovations include water-based coatings that replace plastic linings, lightweight corrugated designs that reduce material use and digital printing that allows short runs and personalisation. Brands are increasingly using packaging as a marketing tool, while regulations on single-use plastics continue to drive the shift to paper.

Paper Goods for Local Sectors

Different industries in Blaenau Gwent have distinct paper needs. Food producers and cafes require food-safe packaging, greaseproof wraps and takeaway containers. Manufacturers and logistics firms rely on strong corrugated cases, pallet wrap alternatives and protective void fill. Schools, care homes and offices consume large quantities of tissue, paper towels and hygiene products. Retailers increasingly use branded paper bags to reinforce their identity on the high street. Understanding these specific requirements helps buyers choose the right grade, strength and format, avoiding over-specification that wastes money or under-specification that risks damage and complaints.
