Heat Pumps: The Central Question for Most Property Owners
Air source heat pumps extract heat from outside air and upgrade it to useful temperatures using a refrigeration cycle. Because they move heat rather than generate it, they deliver several units of heat for each unit of electricity consumed, which is why they are central to decarbonising heating.
They are not, however, a simple swap for a gas boiler. Heat pumps operate most efficiently at lower flow temperatures, typically well below what a conventional boiler delivers.
