Top 10 Best Furniture Stores in Hastings

Furnishing Your Home in Hastings

Hastings and St Leonards are home to some of the most characterful housing on the south coast. Tall Regency terraces, Victorian villas, converted seafront flats and new developments on the edges of town all present different furnishing challenges. Narrow staircases, high ceilings, bay windows and compact rooms mean the right piece of furniture is about more than looks; it has to fit the space and the lifestyle of a coastal town.

The good news is that Hastings shoppers have access to a broad range of furniture retailers, from large homeware stores on the retail parks to national brands that offer showroom visits, design advice and delivery to the door. The list below highlights the ten best options based on range, quality, value and customer service.

What Makes a Great Furniture Store

We looked for retailers that offer durable construction, clear guarantees, flexible delivery, assembly services and the ability to customise sizes and fabrics. Stores that help customers plan around awkward layouts, which are common in Hastings period properties, scored particularly well.

1. Dunelm

Dunelm is a go-to destination for Hastings households looking for affordable furniture alongside soft furnishings, lighting and bedding. Click-and-collect and regular sales make it great value.

2. DFS

DFS is one of the UK's best-known sofa retailers, offering an enormous choice of fabrics, leathers and configurations. Hastings customers appreciate the long guarantees, interest-free payment options and the ability to order modular sofas that can be delivered in sections, which helps with tight stairwells in converted flats.

3. ScS

ScS specialises in sofas, chairs and flooring, often with competitive prices and frequent promotions. Its range includes reclining and corner sofas suited to family living rooms, and its combined furniture and flooring offer allows customers to refresh an entire room in one go.

4. Furniture Village

Furniture Village sits at the premium end of the mainstream market, with a strong focus on build quality and designer-inspired collections. Its showrooms let customers test mattresses, dining tables and sofas, and its design advice helps buyers coordinate pieces across open-plan spaces.

5. Oak Furnitureland

Solid wood lovers in Hastings frequently choose Oak Furnitureland for dining tables, sideboards, wardrobes and bedroom furniture. The brand's emphasis on real hardwood rather than veneers gives its pieces a long life, and the natural finishes suit both rustic Old Town cottages and contemporary homes.

6. IKEA

Although IKEA does not have a store in Hastings itself, its home delivery and click-and-collect services make it one of the most used furniture brands in the town. Its space-saving storage, modular kitchens and flat-pack wardrobes are especially popular with first-time buyers and renters working with smaller rooms.

7. Bensons for Beds

For a good night's sleep, Bensons for Beds offers a wide range of mattresses, bed frames and divan sets. Staff guide customers through comfort levels and support types, and the retailer's sleep trials and old-bed removal service add peace of mind.

8. Dreams

Dreams is another bed specialist with a strong reputation for UK-made mattresses and beds. Its sleep-matching technology helps shoppers find the right firmness, and its storage bed options are useful for Hastings homes where cupboard space is limited.

9. Barker and Stonehouse

Barker and Stonehouse offers a curated range of contemporary and classic furniture, including statement sofas, lighting and dining collections. It appeals to buyers furnishing larger homes or those looking for a more boutique, design-led feel without the price of bespoke pieces.

10. British Heart Foundation Furniture and Electrical

Sustainability-minded shoppers can find quality pre-loved sofas, tables, wardrobes and chests at British Heart Foundation furniture shops. Items are checked before sale, prices are low and proceeds support a major health charity. Hastings has a strong culture of vintage and second-hand shopping, and this fits it perfectly.

Furniture Trends in Hastings Homes

Coastal living has a clear influence on interior style in Hastings. Light woods, natural linens, soft blues and greens, and rattan accents are popular choices that echo the sea views and beach huts. At the same time, the town's thriving arts scene encourages bolder, eclectic interiors that mix vintage finds from the Old Town antique shops with modern statement pieces.

Another trend is the rise of multi-functional furniture. With more people working from home, sofa beds, extendable dining tables that double as desks and storage ottomans are in high demand. Retailers that offer compact, flexible designs are winning favour with buyers in smaller flats, while sustainably sourced timber and recycled fabrics are becoming important selling points.

Tips for Buying Furniture in Hastings

Always measure doorways, stairwells and corners before ordering, particularly in older terraced houses and seafront conversions. Ask about modular or self-assembly options for large items. Consider fabrics that resist fading if your room catches strong coastal sunlight, and check delivery lead times, as made-to-order pieces can take several weeks. Finally, look out for seasonal sales, which can bring premium pieces within reach.

Final Thoughts

From budget-friendly homeware to heirloom-quality oak, Hastings shoppers have a wide selection of furniture retailers to choose from. Take your time, visit showrooms where possible, and pick pieces that suit both your space and the relaxed coastal lifestyle that makes Hastings such a special place to live.
